One of Obsideo key skills is to develop, implement and interpret the required test work for the purpose of creating the most suitable process design for each individual project. Obsideo can assist clients in reviewing resource data for the selection of testwork samples to represent an ore body. Obsideo maintains close links with a number of well-respected metallurgical laboratories where innovative testwork programs are developed on behalf of clients during which emphasis is placed on the preparation of practical data, which ultimately provides the basis of plant design. This allows Obsideo Consulting to apply accurate process design, and to offer comprehensive plant performance guarantees to our clients.
Plant Design
& Layout
Obsideo has the capacity to design and lay-out in both 2D and 3D. Our design and draughting team has extensive experience in the mineral processing industry and provides the following expertise and deliverables associated with plant design:

Obsideo makes use of sub-contractors for construction work. Sub-contractors are usually let on a competitive tender basis and are administered by our management team which has access to engineers of various disciplines as required. Obsideo also considers partnership and joint venture agreements with construction sub-contractors depending on the project specific and client requirements.
-
Obsideo Consulting has a different approach from most other engineering companies with regards to the selection of construction contractors. Obsideo Consulting will assess the complexity and magnitude of the construction requirements against the capabilities and skill sets of local contractors and then aligns the contracting strategy accordingto each project so that the focus is on utilising as much local capability as possible without compromising on quality. This approach not only creates job opportunities in the vicinity where the clients develop their projects, but also results in cost effective solutions where preliminary and general (P&G) costs are kept to a minimum.
-
Obsideo Consulting’s construction management carefully supervises the services of the selected sub-contractors. Progress and quality of work is closely monitored against the agreed schedules and standards.
-
Obsideo construction management includes:
-
Site safety and environmental issues
-
Civil work
-
Steel erection
-
Electrical and Instrumentation installation
-

Plant
Commissioning
-
Plants designed and constructed by Obsideo are commissioned by a specialist commissioning team, with the assistance of the client’s plant operators. The commissioning team works with design engineers during plant commissioning, and is responsible for hand-over to the client. These engineers provide training to the client’s engineers and operating staff.
Commissioning is done according to specifications and general staged certification which is coordinated and tracked to measure progress and to control the different phases of commissioning.
Specialised Consultants
& Associates
Obsideo has developed associations with a number of consultants and companies to complement the core competencies. When necessary, their services are called upon to ensure the success of a particular project.
Cost Engineering
& Procurement
-
Obsideo team of experienced cost engineers and estimators have compiled a detailed data base of applicable costs and unit rates which is updated on a continual basis with actual project information. Obsideo has, through associated specialist consultants, access to mining supply industry costs at the forefront of world mining technology in Southern Africa. With intimate knowledge of the industry, Obsideo is in the position to negotiate best prices and deliveries for clients, thus ensuring that each project is equipped with the latest technology of the highest standards.
Professionals in procurement and contract administration work closely with the project managers and discipline engineers to ensure that the best equipment supplies and sub-contractors are secured. Our expediting team monitors the performance of these suppliers, ensuring that delivery dates are met.
Data Management
& On-Line Project Support
-
Control of documents and data is done on a web-based system with unlimited access from anywhere in the world. This centralised single point database with no data duplication has the data input at the source of data generation where data is integrated through intelligent metadata structures. This enables the clients, project team and contractors to access the latest drawings, specifications and work instructions in real time. Custom designed dash boards can be set up for the clients with predefined reports and graphs which are continually updated to the linked data in line with project progress updates by the project team at source.
Quality Assurance
& Quality Control
Obsideo project teams are fully committed to quality and understand the long-term importance of achieving and maintaining consistently high standards.
Quality Control and Quality Assurance are essential to ensure that fabrication of equipment and structures, as well as construction of works, are done in accordance with design and specifications. Equipment suppliers, fabricators and constructors are directly responsible for their own quality which requires each fabricator and constructor to develop a project specific quality control plan (QCP) and/or inspection test plan (ITP) wherein intervention and interface points are clearly defined.
Obsideo reviews and approves project specific quality control plans (QCP’s) and/or inspection test plans (ITP’s) and fulfils all obligations on behalf of the clients with regards to intervention points as defined on the ITP’s.
Obsideo is dedicated to turning engineering dreams into reality. Our team is committed to bringing exceptional ideas to life through expertise, dedication, and collaborative teamwork.
